Margaret J. Loewen MD and Family

My youngest son made one terrible decision at the age of 20 that led our family on a journey we had never planned. He began smoking black tar heroin after being introduced to this illegal and addictive drug by a friend. The horrifying result was an experience of great magnitude that lasted 7 years before Bez was able to find the path to his recovery. The Picture of Addiction - It Can Happen to Anyone became a project we took on together to tell others what we learned. We wrote a book advocating for treatments that are supported by scientific evidence. Medication assisted treatment requires physicians and other medical providers to become involved as the prescribers of buprenorphine, a treatment drug that takes the craving for opioids away and allows a user to function in society. The book is part memoir and part research-based recommendations for treatment by teams that must include physicians, counselors, peer recovery coaches, employers offering jobs, sobriety housing and more.

The shocking numbers of deaths from opioid-related drug overdoses for the past twenty years has led our family to start this company to do what we can to teach and encourage better treatments for this disease of opioid use.

Our goal is to encourage our readers to contact us to ask questions and to join the critical discussions that should be underway in every community in this country. This is so long overdue.
